What College Is Right For You?

by: Adrian

Selecting what colleges to apply to is nearly as important as selecting what programs you would like to focus on. It is important to find the right fit for you, not only career wise, but campus wise. Choosing the right school can have a significant impact on your overall satisfaction with your education after graduation. Thankfully, in Ontario we have 27 colleges offering a variety of courses. This year, Picture Your Future Tour has been travelling alongside the College Information Program, giving you the opportunity to shop around. When choosing between schools, it is important to consider what different colleges have to offer. If you enjoy being in nature, perhaps it is good to consider schools where the outdoors are readily available to you. On the other hand, some students may prefer the fast paced environment of a bigger city. Ask what extracurricular activities are important to you, and see…

To Thine Own Self Be True

by: Adrian

Where are we all going in this ever-changing workspace that is growing, fluctuating and breathing like an organism? We are out on the road, travelling from school to school and it’s clear that the choices for the future have never been so plentiful. We’re creating tangible value and service price points for emerging industries like social media management for larger businesses, who are garnering massive returns through a well executed social media strategy. But I’m not here to tell you what you should be doing to make your business better – there are hundreds of books and articles written by people with far more experience than I can throw in your direction. I’m just here to remind you that in a market where everyone is shouting to be heard, your voice has to be your own. With the Colleges Ontario’s “Picture Your Future” tour, we see hundreds of kids pass…

A quick word from the road crew leader

by: Adrian

What do people in Pembroke, Ontario want? My name is Adrian and I am on the road for Colleges Ontario and FPM3 on the “Picture Your Future Tour 2014“. This is an exercise that has a team of four peeps putting hours on the road going from high school to high school reaching out to the students across Ontario and delivering the message:   “COLLEGE IS A GREAT OPTION, PEOPLE!” Finishing in North Bay reaching more than 100 kids, we’ve now hit the road and landed in Pembroke. The motel is clean, neat and very very yellow. Good thing I love yellow! BUT THEN, from the corner of my eye, I spot the sign for a restaurant that said:   “A GREAT PLACE TO EAT! NO JUNK FOOD!” Being on the road for two months out of the year – one of the first things that you miss (besides clean underwear and…

So it begins.

Well, here we are, three days into the Picture Your Future Tour. We’ve seen the sights, met some nice folks and even lost our way once or twice, but the journey is only just beginning. The goal of our province-wide excursion is not only to promote the colleges of Ontario, but to encourage youth to have the crucial conversation about their post-secondary future with parents and teachers. We aim to nurture the desire to learn and experience hands-on new things by relaying the importance of considering the options for post-secondary studies. Armed with their aspirations and the right knowledge, these students will soon be ready to set out on the road to success. It’s incredible how much can be fit into a van with enough determination. When all the gear is unpacked, it looks like enough to fill a UHaul, but we’ve got a system to fit everything together like a …

The MOVIE experience

by: Adrian

So you have decided that you are going to the movies. You can sink into those warm chairs, comfortable in the dark silence and think about what life must have been like in the womb. The new James Bond film just came out and it’s bigger, badder and more intense than all the rest. It’s the best one, and this guy, this guy is definitely the best James bond EVER! Sean who? Kick him in the throat! Shoot him in the face! Make him bleed, Bond! I will have your baby when science works out how! So you’ve bought your ticket and, hands full of popcorn and drink you make your way into the theater. As you round the corner you see that it is full, I mean, FULL. Did every person on the planet have the same idea as you. It must be that damn Adele song, that sweet…

A new thought on corporate ownership...

by: Adrian

Here we sit. Humans… absolutely removed from the environment that used to control our every decision. We have built systems and structures, constructed and added knowledge upon knowledge as we have moved through the ages. Civilizations rise and fall, governments come into being and then dissolve but humanity continues and the one thing that stands tall in our collective world today, yesterday and tomorrow is money. Yes money – So here is an interesting slant looking at our world today. There is a global economic crises. Some economies are struggling for air while others are managing to hold their ground but the general feeling around the world is that things are not good. I can’t pretend to know the cause – in the back of my mind I blame America, but then I blame everything on the American’s, weak knees, tender kidneys, trust me, it’s easier that way. Get on…

The Great 'Godgle'

by: Adrian

So here’s an idea… I am not a religious man – but this did get me thinking. Let’s take a look at your perception of God and what that idea means to you. The definitions of what God is and how he/ she/ it/ they interact with us is about as unique and diverse as every individual person. For some God is found in a church a synagogue or a mosque, others might find God in the face of their children, or in the strings of an old guitar, others might find God on the sports field or in the classroom or on the operating table. God’s relationship with us is  as unique as we are. One thing I believe is that God is the strand that unites us with all other things – whether there is a consciousness above and beyond that is a debate for another time, but…
