Correct Your business Online Listings!

Correct Your business Online Listings!

10 years ago, creating an ad through traditional media involved creating a page in a phone book of one’s municipality. A set fee and a meeting would determine the size of the ad and how many phone numbers you would need to keep your business local. Maintaining this ad would involve paying a big chunk of money every month. If there was a mistake in the ad, such as a phone number discrepancy, then the business that commissioned the ad would have to deal with months or even years of people calling the wrong phone number. With today’s technological advancements and the rise of the internet, there are many online marketing options. Websites such as Google or Facebook allow both small and medium size businesses the instantaneous ability to update information. It could be an address, a phone number, or a featured ad that one wants to profile. Gone are…

Ways to Pay! All with Online convenience

Ways to Pay! All with Online convenience

by: Adam

I had recently received my business insurance renewal policy and they told me about the convenient ways I can pay them, which were by cheque or credit card. I noticed the letter advised me there would be a 2.5% charge for using a credit card for payment. Immediately, I called the insurance company to ask why they are charging this extra percentage. I was advised that they are entitled to a service fee. I disagreed. So I made a phone call to the Canadian Consumer Affairs, and challenged this disagreement in question. Their response was interesting. It is not illegal, however, it is against the terms and conditions with the credit card company to increase a percentage against payment. Knowing this, I had to call the credit card company directly, and ask the question as to why I am getting charged 2.5% on top of my insurance fees. To be…

The Ukrainian Crisis

by: Marc

Have you watched the news recently regarding what’s happening in Ukraine? If not, here’s a brief overview about the recent events surrounding that nation. A few weeks ago, there was a revolution in Ukraine confronting the Pro European and the Pro Russian. After violent confrontations and many dead people opposing police militiamen against the population, the revolution ended after the parliament voted for the exclusion of the president, this later has leaked into Russia. Very quickly, a transitional government was elected in by a vote of hands at Maidan, the public square in Kiev (capital of Ukraine). However, a large part of Ukraine, called Crimea, is mainly composed of pro Russian (60% are Russian and only 25% Ukrainian). They began to manifest themselves through demonstrations and they blocked the airport and certain roads of the main city of Crimea. Vladimir Poutine , president of Russia, voted in the Russian parliament on…

To Kiss or Not To Kiss? That Is The Question!

by: Marc

Have you ever worked abroad or been on a business trip in another country? If yes, you will understand what I am talking about and if not, I hope you can learn something from my personal experience. In this article, I will try to bring up my own perception of working in two different countries, and how business differs depending on where you are located. You might think that something is appropriate in one country, but it is not in another and what seems usual or normal for you, might be offensive for others. How do I know that? Well, if you are French like I am, try to give a kiss to your female co-workers or even to your friends, here in Canada, and you will see what I am talking about. Or, if you are a Canadian moving to France, you will probably be surprised to see all…

Relay For Life: Run To Fight Cancer

by: Adam

Last Friday, my team Notorius C.U.R.E and I ran from 7pm to 7am in Brampton, Ontario, to raise money to fight cancer. The initiative was taken by the Canadian Cancer Society which just celebrated its 75th birthday and Relay For Life is a huge part of their efforts to fight cancer. Our personal goal was to raise at least $500 and we can say that we blew that amount out since we raised $1,576.00 so far and maybe more thanks to your generous donations. For more information about Relay For Life and if you want to make a donation for a great cause, please check out their website  http://convio.cancer.ca/site/TR?fr_id=12396&pg=entry&s_locale=en_CA

Skills Canada Event: The Green Screen Game!

by: Adam

FPM3 attended the Skills Canada event in Waterloo for OCAS from May 6th-7th. OCAS came to us with the idea of picturing high school students in a skilled trade and handing them a free picture with a QR code as a souvenir to remind them of how they’ll look working in their desired trade. FPM3 developed the picture-taking-qr-code-generating software for the event, with the ability to take a picture of someone in front of a green screen, remove the green screen, apply the image to a chosen background image, generate a QR code, slap it all together, and finish with a high resolution print, all under 2 minutes. We then use Adobe After Effects software to remove the green screen and re-size the picture before setting the background chosen (i.e. firefighter, police, paramedic, landscaper, fashion model, etc.). Finally, we send the picture to the printer. Since the pictures feature a custom generated…
