SMARTPHONE EXPLOSION

SMARTPHONE EXPLOSION

by: Adam

ARTICLE IN THE CAMBRIDGE CHAMBER – SPECTRUM winter edition It’s coming to a point when most of our smartphones are reaching a capacity of which provide the most speed and the most features with security. But have we really maximized what we can actually do with our future smartphones? The fact of the matter is smartphones are mini-computers and packed full of features that demand a lot of battery power. In the recent months you might of heard that Samsung phones, and other products, have been exploding due to battery issues. It became such a massive problem with the Note 7 that it is now a law that you are not allowed to bring it on any public transportation in the United States, Canada or on any airline in the world. And doing so will result in fines of over $500,000 USD. Unfortunately Samsung isn’t the only one that has had…

Drone takes over office lights

Drone takes over office lights

by: Adam

Last week was a massive attack on servers through the Internet of Things. Adam Oldfield talked on 900 CHML Tech Talk about a lot of cool technology however we haven’t talked about the security that goes with it. This is a video that was done with a drone and hacks Philips light bulbs inside a building from outside drone. It is only a sample to explain how the power of security is critical when it comes to this new technology. LED lights come with the ability to be controlled with your smartphone. However, it costs extra to get the security installed. A new regulatory body is in the works for the United States to put security regulations for anything that has an internet-connected device to it.  Here is a video showing how it works!   Adam Oldfield, President of FPM3 can be heard Fridays on 900 CHML 11:30am with Bill Kelly….

Ways to Pay! All with Online convenience

Ways to Pay! All with Online convenience

by: Adam

I had recently received my business insurance renewal policy and they told me about the convenient ways I can pay them, which were by cheque or credit card. I noticed the letter advised me there would be a 2.5% charge for using a credit card for payment. Immediately, I called the insurance company to ask why they are charging this extra percentage. I was advised that they are entitled to a service fee. I disagreed. So I made a phone call to the Canadian Consumer Affairs, and challenged this disagreement in question. Their response was interesting. It is not illegal, however, it is against the terms and conditions with the credit card company to increase a percentage against payment. Knowing this, I had to call the credit card company directly, and ask the question as to why I am getting charged 2.5% on top of my insurance fees. To be…

RIP Adobe Flash

RIP Adobe Flash

by: Adam

Steve Jobs had forecasted that flash was going to end and that it wasn’t a part of our internet experience way back in 2010. In fact, he was instrumental in ensuring that Adobe Flash would not succeed with the launch of the iPad and the iPhone. What’s interesting is that Steve Jobs felt that flash was too complex and he was more focused on simplifying how the user experience should be. As flash had many loopholes that offered the chance malware could be able to infiltrate the computer system. As Steve Jobs was very focused on making sure that users of his products could feel safe and secure from online predators, it was perfectly the right choice on his side to limit Adobe Flash from working on Apple systems. As Adobe was quite the PowerHouse with its software and with flash being used on many websites. Many did not feel…

YOU'VE JUST BEEN HACKED!

YOU'VE JUST BEEN HACKED!

by: Adam

Check out the Cambridge Chamber latest “spectrum” magazine with my article on hacking and the issues related to it. Here is the full article: You’ve probably heard by now or have been affected by it, and that’s your passwords getting hacked. Yes, even the largest of companies still don’t have a full security protection from hackers being able to get into the server to get your information. In the past few months, Linked In, Tumblr, and Myspace, just to name a few, have all been compromised with username and password information getting leaked. Why would it affect you? Identity theft is the number one crime in North America. With credit cards and the simplicity of doing online payments, it seems so simple to start putting together an identity of yourself with a credit card to be set up instantly using your information. All of this can be done sitting at…

Happy Holidays and an end to 2015

by: Adam

Happy holidays everybody. It’s been a heck of a year. 2016 looks very promising in regards to success on many levels.   Technology has advanced once again over the past year and I’ve had the honor of being a host on 900 CHML with Bill Kelly with  Tech Talk, sponsored by Hamilton Limo,  every Friday at 11:35 a.m. We will continue to talk about technology and how it integrates with today’s lives and with small business. I’m excited to share that it will continue into 2016 and I will be planning to prepare an outline of all the technology and 2015 I thought was revolutionary and innovative. And of course I will try to put my perspective of what the future may hold for 2016 when it comes to technology and small business. One thing is for certain in Canada and Ontario.  We are about to go through a pretty nasty…

Sales - critical to any business

by: Adam

Well it’s official.  I will be once again be teaching at Mohawk College in 2016 to second year radio student’s,  sales and marketing. I have had the luxury of teaching this course for a few years now and managed to keep in touch with a few students from my past classes that have successfully manage to get jobs in the media field but also with students who have managed to achieve success through employment in other fields of work. It makes me proud and truly I do enjoy the position of teaching at Mohawk College the art of sales as I love seeing the students succeed by using these sales skills in both their professional and personal life. One example is Ruby, who was a student in my class a few years back where I recently received a lovely thank you card from her. Ruby is working for the Flight…
